SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation (Yokohama, Japan)

SPIE “Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation” organized by the International Society for Optical Engineering is a major event for sharing information on ground-based, airborne, and space-based telescopes, instruments, and other fundamental technologies related to astronomy. It is held every two years and will be held in Japan for the first time. Astronomers and engineers from all over the world with knowledge, experience, and ideas will come together. About 10 members of the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) will also attend the event and give presentations.

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan will exhibit one booth, where ATC will join to ALMA, Subaru, TMT projects. ATC is a unique department in the Japanese astronomical society that can handle “design”, “manufacturing”, “system testing”, and “evaluation” consistently. ATC is responsible for the development of observation systems used both the ground and the space.

On this exhibition, we will present "Band 8 receiver cartridge" and "Corrugated horn for Band 1 receiver” made by a metal 3D printer, "721-pixel silicon lens array" made by an ultra-precision machining, and "deformable mirror" made by a wire electrical discharge machining. We will also introduce techniques under cryogenic environments such as test of worm gears, rotating stages, and holders of optical components.
